The NORTON 66253220891 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for precision stock removal on steel workpieces. It measures 12 inches in diameter, 1 inch thick, with a 3-inch arbor hole. The wheel is constructed from aluminum oxide abrasive in a vitrified bond, rated at medium grade with an H hardness code. At a maximum operating speed of 2,710 RPM, it delivers consistent cut rates on hard and soft carbon steels as well as tool steels. Licensed grinding technicians and machinists install this wheel on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders as part of standard toolroom and production-floor operations.
This wheel is suited for flat surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications in industrial and toolroom environments. Its porous, vitrified structure promotes free cutting action and efficient coolant flow, which helps control heat buildup during extended passes. The 48A Series Type 1 designation places it in a well-established Norton aluminum oxide line commonly selected for ferrous metal work. Compatible material applications include hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels.
Grinding wheel installation must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Before mounting, ring-test the wheel for cracks and verify the machine spindle speed does not exceed the wheel maximum RPM rating. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Use proper flanges and blotters as required by the machine manufacturer; never force a wheel onto a spindle.
