The NORTON 66253202842 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive stock removal on ferrous metals and difficult-to-grind alloys. Measuring 12 inches in diameter and 1-1/2 inches thick with a 5-inch arbor hole, this wheel uses a ceramic abrasive grain bonded in a vitrified matrix. The 46 grit, coarse grade designation suits applications where fast material removal takes priority over fine surface finish. At a maximum rated speed of 2,070 RPM, it is intended for use on industrial surface grinders and CNC cutting tool machines operated by skilled grinding technicians or tool-room personnel.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding and cylindrical grinding operations in industrial and tool-room environments. It performs well on 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The semi-friable ceramic grain continuously fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, which helps maintain cut rate and reduce heat buildup during extended grinding passes. It is a practical choice for shops that regularly process hard, abrasion-resistant materials where conventional aluminum oxide wheels wear too quickly.

Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels should be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 requirements. Always perform a ring test before mounting and verify the machine spindle speed does not exceed the wheel's 2,070 RPM maximum rating. Ensure the arbor hole fits the machine spindle with the correct flanges and blotters before tightening. True and dress the wheel after mounting before bringing a workpiece into contact.
