The NORTON 66253202820 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Built around a ceramic abrasive grain with a vitrified bond, this wheel measures 12 inches in diameter, 1.5 inches thick, and carries a 3-inch arbor hole. The 46-grit coarse grade and medium hardness rating (I hardness code) position it for high-stock-removal passes where surface finish is secondary to cut rate. The semi-friable ceramic grain self-sharpens under load, reducing glazing and maintaining consistent cutting action throughout the wheel life.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding and cylindrical grinding operations on demanding workpiece materials. Rated applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, superalloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. It is compatible with surface grinders and CNC cutting tool machines where a Type 1 straight wheel with a 3-inch bore is specified. The 2070 RPM maximum operating speed and 12-inch diameter make it a fit for heavy-duty production grinding cells as well as toolroom surface grinders handling hardened ferrous and exotic-alloy workpieces.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines accepting a Type 1 straight wheel with a 12-inch diameter and 3-inch arbor hole. Rated material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, superalloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Wheel specification code 5SG46-IVS.
Surface grinding wheel installation must be performed by a qualified grinding machine operator or toolroom technician following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always perform a ring test before mounting and confirm that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 2070 RPM maximum marked on the wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Never exceed the rated RPM, never use damaged or cracked wheels, and always use appropriate flanges and blotters as specified by the wheel and machine manufacturer.
