The NORTON 66253160494 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for demanding material removal on ferrous and exotic metals. Built on a ceramic abrasive grain with a vitrified bond, this wheel carries a coarse 46-grit rating and a G hardness code, placing it in the soft end of the hardness spectrum for efficient stock removal without excessive heat buildup. At 10 inches in diameter, 1 inch thick, and with a 3-inch arbor hole, it is sized for production surface grinders and CNC tool grinding setups. Licensed grinding professionals and toolroom machinists are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This wheel is suited to surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, and CNC cutting tool machine applications. It performs across a broad range of materials including 400 Series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The semi-friable ceramic grain continuously fractures during use to expose fresh cutting edges, making it a practical choice for high-stock-removal passes and interrupted cuts on hard or abrasion-resistant workpieces in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 Series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Fits machines with a 3-inch arbor and accommodates 10-inch wheel capacity.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by trained personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 safety standards. Always ring-test the wheel for cracks before mounting and never exceed the 2485 RPM maximum rated speed. Flanges must be clean, flat, and the correct diameter for this wheel size. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and dress the wheel after mounting to ensure proper balance and face geometry.
