The NORTON 66253044180 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal on metalworking applications. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 3/4 inches thick, and carries a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The abrasive is white aluminum oxide, bonded in a vitrified matrix to the 38A specification. At 46 grit coarse grade with a K hardness code and semi-friable structure, this wheel cuts aggressively while minimizing heat buildup. Maximum rated speed is 3,600 RPM. It is a non-porous, non-tapered, flat wheel with no recess — the standard profile for most bench and surface grinder spindles.
This wheel is suited for grinding soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. It is commonly installed on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance facilities. The coarse grit and medium-hardness bond make it a practical choice for aggressive material removal before finish grinding passes. Trade machinists and tool grinders are the typical end users for this wheel type.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Rated for soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. Fits spindles with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician in accordance with ANSI B11.9 and the grinder manufacturer guidelines. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting — perform a ring test by tapping the wheel gently and listening for a clear tone. Power down and lock out the machine before changing wheels. Never exceed the 3,600 RPM maximum rated speed stamped on the wheel or blotter.
