The NORTON 66253044093 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for precision material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and long wheel life under demanding conditions. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 0.5 inches thick, and carries a 1.25-inch arbor hole. The 60-grit, J-hardness (medium grade) specification makes it well suited for aggressive yet controlled grinding passes. Maximum rated speed is 3,600 RPM. Licensed trade professionals and tool-room machinists are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This grinding wheel is rated for use on 400 Series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. It is compatible with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. The porous, semi-friable ceramic grain structure keeps the wheel face open and cool during extended runs, reducing the risk of workpiece burn on heat-sensitive materials such as titanium and stainless. It carries no recess and is non-tapered, making it a straightforward flat-face replacement for standard Type 1 wheel mounts.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Rated material applications include 400 Series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by a qualified operator familiar with ANSI B7.1 safety standards for abrasive wheels. Before mounting, power down and lock out the grinder per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before installation, and verify the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3,600 RPM maximum rating stamped on the wheel. Always use the correct flange size and arbor hardware for a 1.25-inch hole wheel, and dress the wheel face before the first grinding pass to true the surface.
