The NORTON 66253043749 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for precision material removal on ferrous metals and high-performance alloys. Built from white aluminum oxide abrasive with a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and a predictable wear pattern across the grinding face. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The 46-grit, coarse-grade construction makes it well suited for aggressive roughing passes where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate. Rated at a maximum of 3,105 RPM, it is installed and operated by machinists and tool-room technicians on production and maintenance grinding equipment.
This wheel is designed for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in both production shop and tool-room environments. Its aluminum oxide abrasive formulation performs best on soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. The semi-friable grain structure allows the wheel to self-dress partially during aggressive cuts, helping maintain a sharp cutting face through a range of material hardnesses. It carries the 38A Type 1 series designation and a medium hardness rating with hardness code I, making it a versatile choice for general-purpose surface grinding applications in both light manufacturing and heavy toolroom use.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Fits spindles requiring a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. Suitable for grinding soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys per the 38A Type 1 series specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding machine operator. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips by performing a ring test; do not mount a damaged wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and confirm the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3,105 RPM maximum rating stamped on the wheel. Always use proper flanges and a blotter between the flange face and the wheel, and run the newly mounted wheel under a guard at full speed for at least one minute before bringing it into contact with the workpiece.
