The NORTON 66253043425 is a Type 1 straight surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal and surface finishing on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It measures 8 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The abrasive grain is aluminum oxide, bonded with a vitrified bond and rated to a maximum of 3600 RPM. Hardness is rated L (medium) under the NORTON 32A specification, making it well-suited for controlled material removal on a wide range of metals without loading the wheel surface. Licensed machinists and grinding machine operators are the typical end users.
This wheel is intended for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in both job-shop and production environments. The aluminum oxide grain and vitrified bond combination perform reliably on 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The porous structure of the wheel assists with chip clearance and heat dissipation during grinding passes, which is especially relevant when working hardened tool steels or stainless grades.

Wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machine operator or toolroom technician following ANSI B11.22 and OSHA 1910.215 grinding safety requirements. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and confirm the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum marked on the wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Never exceed the rated operating speed regardless of machine capability.
