The NORTON 66253043352 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel built for precision material removal on hard ferrous metals and high-alloy workpieces. It measures 8 inches in diameter, 1/4 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The wheel uses a ceramic abrasive grain bonded in a vitrified matrix, rated at Medium grade hardness (Code L). Maximum operating speed is 3600 RPM. The ceramic grain is semi-friable, meaning it fractures under load to expose fresh cutting edges, maintaining cut rate and surface finish over the wheel's service life. Licensed trades and tool-room machinists install this wheel on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders for high-precision flat and cylindrical grinding work.
This wheel is rated for use on 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. It is suited for CNC cutting tool machines, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders in both job-shop and production environments. The porous structure promotes coolant flow and chip clearance, reducing heat buildup when grinding heat-sensitive materials such as titanium and stainless. The blue wheel color is characteristic of the 5SG Series Type 1 line.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Rated material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding technician following ANSI B7.1 safety standards for abrasive wheels. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using a ring test — a clear tone indicates structural integrity. Power down and lock out the grinder before mounting; ensure arbor size matches the 1-1/4 inch bore exactly and that flanges are clean and properly relieved. Never exceed the 3600 RPM maximum speed rating marked on the wheel.
