The NORTON 66253019346 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for high-performance material removal on ferrous metals and hard alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and vitrified bond, this 8-inch diameter wheel delivers consistent stock removal and long wheel life under both wet and dry operating conditions. At 46 grit with an H hardness code, it falls in the coarse-grade range, making it well suited for aggressive grinding passes where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate. The maximum rated speed is 3600 RPM. Licensed grinding professionals and toolroom machinists are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This wheel is intended for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in both production and toolroom environments. It is rated for use on 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Its semi-friable ceramic grain self-sharpens under load, which helps maintain cut rate on difficult-to-grind materials without excessive wheel breakdown. Applications range from flat surface finishing to profile grinding on hardened tooling and wear components.
Rated for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by a qualified grinding machine operator following ANSI B7.1 safety standards for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or damage before mounting and perform a ring test prior to use. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and confirm the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM rating stamped on the wheel. Use proper blotters and flanges during mounting and never apply side pressure to a Type 1 straight wheel.
