The NORTON 662530-44087 is a Type 1 silicon carbide bench and pedestal grinding wheel designed for stock removal and sharpening on non-metallic workpieces. Measuring 8 inches in diameter, 1 inch wide, with a 1-inch arbor bore, this wheel mounts to standard bench grinders and pedestal grinder stands. The green silicon carbide abrasive material is suited for medium-grit material removal on carbide tooling, ceramics, glass, and similar hard non-ferrous or non-metallic materials. The wheel is rated to a maximum of 3,600 RPM, keeping it compatible with a broad range of benchtop and floor-stand grinder units used in trade shops.
This wheel is a standard production abrasive used in fabrication shops, tool rooms, and maintenance facilities where technicians need to dress, shape, or sharpen carbide-tipped tools and non-metallic workpieces. Medium grit provides a balance between aggressive stock removal and a reasonably smooth finished surface, making it appropriate for both tool reconditioning and general shaping tasks. It is sold individually and fits grinder arbors sized at 1 inch.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard-fit wheel for bench grinders and pedestal grinder stands accepting an 8 x 1 x 1 inch Type 1 wheel with a 1-inch arbor bore and a maximum operating speed of 3,600 RPM or higher.
Always power down and unplug or lock out the grinder before mounting or removing an abrasive wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation and perform a ring test by tapping the wheel gently — a clear ring indicates structural integrity. Do not exceed the 3,600 RPM maximum speed rating marked on the wheel. Eye protection and a properly adjusted work rest and wheel guard are required during operation in accordance with ANSI B7.1 standards for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels.
