The NORTON 66252942703 is a Type 5 surface grinding wheel designed for material removal and finish grinding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cutting action and open structure for cool, free cutting. The 60-grit, K-hardness (medium grade) combination suits general-purpose stock removal where surface finish and dimensional control both matter. At 7 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick, with a 1-1/4-inch arbor hole, it is rated to 3600 RPM and mounts on standard surface and cylindrical grinders. Weight is 2.98 pounds. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and grinding specialists are the typical installers.
This wheel is suited for production and toolroom environments running surface grinders or cylindrical grinders. The aluminum oxide grain and vitrified bond make it effective on 400 series stainless steel, hard and soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The one-side recessed Type 5 profile reduces contact area on the wheel face, lowering heat generation during extended grinding passes. It fits applications where controlled material removal on flat or cylindrical workpieces is required.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Confirmed material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing must be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B7.1 safety standards for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test. Power down and de-energize the grinder before installing or changing wheels, and confirm the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum rating marked on the wheel. A proper wheel flange and blotter assembly must be used, and the wheel guard must be in place before operation.
