The NORTON 66252942427 is a Type 5 ceramic surface grinding wheel engineered for aggressive stock removal on hard ferrous materials. Built with a vitrified bond and rated at a coarse 46 grit with J hardness, this wheel delivers consistent cut rates and controlled breakdown on demanding workpieces. It measures 7 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole and a one-side recess measuring 2-3/4 inches in diameter and 0.5 inches deep. Maximum operating speed is 3,600 RPM. The ceramic abrasive grain is semi-friable, continuously exposing fresh cutting edges during use. Licensed machinists, tool and die shops, and industrial grinding technicians are the primary installers and operators.
This wheel is suited for precision surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications across a range of hard and difficult-to-grind materials. Rated applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The recessed Type 5 profile accommodates clearance needs on surface grinders and cylindrical grinders where a flat Type 1 wheel would interfere with workholding fixtures. It is appropriate for both production and maintenance grinding environments.
Designed for use with surface grinders and cylindrical grinders. Compatible material applications include 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation is 5SG Type 5, specification code 5SG46-JVS.
Mounting and operation should be performed by qualified grinding machine operators following ANSI B7.1 safety requirements for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or damage before mounting and perform a ring test. Never exceed the rated maximum speed of 3,600 RPM. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and use the correct flanges and blotters for the arbor size.
