The NORTON 66252942217 is a Type 5 surface grinding wheel engineered for demanding material removal on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from aluminum oxide abrasive with a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rates and thermal stability across high-cycle grinding applications. It measures 7 inches in diameter, 3/4 inches thick, and accepts a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The recessed face (one-side recess, 2-3/4 inches diameter, 1/4 inch deep) reduces contact area for cooler grinding on heat-sensitive workpieces. Rated at 3600 RPM maximum, it is sized for bench-mounted and pedestal surface grinders. The 60 grit, I hardness (medium grade) combination suits stock removal work where moderate surface finish is acceptable.
This wheel is intended for use on cylindrical grinders and surface grinders in professional shop, maintenance, and production environments. Its aluminum oxide composition makes it well-suited for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, tool steels, aluminum, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. The vitrified bond resists loading on these materials and holds form through repeated dressing cycles. It is installed by machinists, tool grinders, and maintenance technicians working with bench or pedestal surface grinding equipment.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool room technician. Before mounting, power down and lock out the grinder per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ring-test the wheel for cracks before mounting — never mount a damaged wheel. Use proper flanges and blotters as specified by ANSI B11.9 grinding safety standards, and always run the wheel at a safe guard behind the work rest before bringing it into contact with the workpiece. Do not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum speed rating stamped on the wheel.
