The NORTON 66252941130 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for high-stock-removal applications on hard ferrous metals. It measures 7 inches in diameter, 0.5 inches thick, with a 1.25-inch arbor hole, and is rated to a maximum of 3600 RPM. The wheel uses a ceramic abrasive grain in a vitrified bond, producing a porous, semi-friable structure that runs cooler and fractures cleanly to expose fresh cutting edges. Hardness code H places it in the soft-to-medium range, making it well-suited for grinding hard, heat-sensitive workpiece materials without glazing. Licensed grinding operators and tool-and-die shops are the primary users.
This wheel is designed for precision surface grinding and cylindrical grinding applications in both production and job-shop environments. It performs on 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Compatible machines include surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. The 46-grit, coarse-grade construction prioritizes aggressive material removal over fine finish, making it a first-operation or roughing wheel rather than a finishing wheel.
Rated for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Series designation 5SG Type 1.
Mounting and dressing of grinding wheels must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and perform a ring test. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, verify the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM wheel rating, and use the correct flange and blotter assembly. Never force a wheel onto a spindle or grind on the side of a Type 1 straight wheel.
