The NORTON 66252940525 is a Type 1 flat surface grinding wheel engineered for high-performance material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. It measures 7 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The wheel uses a ceramic abrasive grain with a vitrified bond, delivering a semi-friable cutting action that continually exposes fresh grain for consistent stock removal. At 60 grit with a medium (I) hardness rating, it is suited for aggressive grinding passes where surface finish is secondary to cut rate. Rated to a maximum of 3600 RPM, it is appropriate for toolroom, production, and maintenance grinding applications.
This wheel is designed for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines in both shop and industrial environments. Typical applications include tool and die work, maintenance of cutting tools, and material conditioning on hard-to-grind workpieces. The 5SG Type 1 series targets demanding materials where conventional aluminum oxide wheels underperform, making it a common specification choice for aerospace, heavy fabrication, and toolroom shops running stainless, titanium, and super alloy components.
Rated for use on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Compatible material applications include 400 Series Stainless, Hard Carbon Steels, Tool Steels, Titanium, Super Alloys, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, and Gray Iron. Series specification: 5SG60-IVSP.
Installation should be performed by a qualified grinding machine operator or maintenance technician following ANSI B7.1 safe use of abrasive wheel standards. Always power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing any grinding wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and never exceed the rated maximum RPM of 3600. Ensure flanges, blotters, and arbor hardware are clean and properly sized for the 1-1/4 inch bore before tightening.
