The NORTON 66252940202 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel engineered for high-performance material removal on hard ferrous metals and specialty alloys. Built with a ceramic abrasive grain and vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and longer wheel life compared to conventional aluminum oxide wheels. It measures 7 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. Rated at a maximum of 3600 RPM, it operates at medium hardness (Grade K) and carries the 5SG80-KVS specification. The semi-friable ceramic grain continuously fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, reducing heat buildup during grinding operations.
This wheel is suited for precision surface grinding applications in production and maintenance environments. It performs on demanding materials including 400 series stainless steel, hard carbon steels, tool steels, titanium, super alloys, cast iron, ductile iron, and gray iron. Compatible machine types include surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Grinding wheel installation must be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test; never mount a damaged wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Verify that the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 3600 RPM maximum rating stamped on the wheel, and use properly sized flanges and a compressible blotter on each side of the wheel.
