The NORTON 66252916232 is a Type 5 recessed surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal on steel workpieces in wet or dry grinding applications. Built around a vitrified bond and aluminum oxide abrasive, this wheel delivers consistent cut rate and form retention across its service life. At 7 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, it mounts to standard surface and cylindrical grinders. The 46-grit coarse grade and H hardness rating make it well suited for aggressive material removal on carbon and tool steels. Rated to 3600 RPM maximum. Wheel weight is 2.75 pounds.
This wheel is intended for professional grinding operations in machine shops, tool rooms, and maintenance facilities. It is appropriate for use on cylindrical grinders and surface grinders handling hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels. The one-side recess configuration — 2-3/4 inch recess diameter, 1/2 inch recess depth — reduces wheel weight and allows clearance for certain workholding fixtures. The ruby-colored aluminum oxide grain is a classic formulation for general-purpose ferrous grinding where a balance of cut rate and wheel life is needed.
Designed for use on cylindrical grinders and surface grinders. Suitable material applications include hard carbon steels, soft carbon steels, and tool steels as specified by the manufacturer.
Grinding wheel mounting and dressing should be performed by a qualified machinist or grinding machine operator following ANSI B11.9 and applicable shop safety standards. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting, and never exceed the 3600 RPM maximum speed rating. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Use the correct reducing bushings and flanges for the 1-1/4 inch arbor bore, and dress the wheel before putting it into service to ensure concentricity and proper face geometry.
