The NORTON 66252916220 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel built for precision stock removal on surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. The wheel measures 7 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick, with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. It is made from aluminum oxide abrasive bonded in a vitrified matrix, graded medium hardness (Hardness Code G) at 60 grit. The 25A series aluminum oxide is semi-friable, meaning the abrasive fractures controllably under load to expose fresh cutting edges. Maximum operating speed is 3,600 RPM. At 1.5 pounds, the wheel is well-suited for bench and surface grinding operations requiring consistent material removal.
This wheel is designed for grinding soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. The vitrified bond provides rigidity and porosity, supporting both wet and dry operation. The porous structure promotes coolant flow and chip clearance during wet grinding, reducing heat buildup at the workpiece surface. Typical applications include surface grinding flat workpieces, tool sharpening, and finish grinding on cylindrical grinders in job shop and production environments. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and grinding machine operators are the primary users.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines requiring a Type 1 flat wheel with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, 7 inch diameter, and 1/2 inch face width.
Grinding wheel mounting must be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 guidelines. Always ring-test the wheel for cracks before mounting and never exceed the 3,600 RPM maximum speed rating. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and use the correct flanges and blotters as specified by the machine manufacturer. Dress the wheel with an appropriate diamond dresser before the first use to true the face and expose fresh abrasive.
