The NORTON 66252838458 is a Type 6 straight-cup grinding wheel designed for tool grinding and offhand grinding applications. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, it delivers consistent stock removal on ferrous metals, high-speed steels, and tool steels. The wheel measures 6 inches in diameter with a 1-1/2 inch overall thickness and a 1/2 inch arbor hole. Rated to a maximum of 3,820 RPM, it carries a hardness code of K and a 46-grit coarse cutting structure suited for aggressive material removal. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, and industrial maintenance techs are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This wheel is a standard fit for bench grinders and pedestal grinders used in tool rooms and maintenance shops. The Type 6 straight-cup geometry allows face grinding of cutting tools, drills, lathe bits, and carbide-tipped tooling. Its gray aluminum oxide composition makes it well suited to medium-hardness ferrous materials where controlled, repeatable cutting action is required. The non-porous vitrified bond resists loading and retains wheel form through extended grinding cycles.
Designed as a standard replacement-style Type 6 straight-cup grinding wheel for bench grinders and pedestal grinders with a 1/2 inch arbor and a maximum spindle speed at or below 3,820 RPM.
Grinding wheel mounting must be performed by a qualified operator following ANSI B11.9 and applicable OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using a ring test before mounting, and never exceed the rated maximum RPM stamped on the wheel. Use the correct flanges and blotters for proper clamping and never force a wheel onto an arbor.
