The NORTON 66252835803 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel built for precision material removal on ferrous and specialty metals. It measures 6 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole. The abrasive is aluminum oxide with a vitrified bond, rated at medium hardness (K hardness code) and semi-friable grain structure. Maximum operating speed is 4140 RPM. The 38A Series designation identifies this as a white aluminum oxide wheel optimized for consistent stock removal and controlled heat generation during dry or wet grinding operations.
This wheel is suited for surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, and use on CNC cutting tool machines. It is commonly applied to soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys where controlled abrasion and wheel breakdown rate are critical to finish quality and workpiece integrity. The non-porous, non-tapered, non-recessed profile makes it a direct fit for standard surface grinder spindle setups encountered in tool rooms and production grinding cells.
Designed for use with surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and CNC cutting tool machines. Suitable for grinding soft carbon steels, tool steels, and super alloys. Arbor hole size of 1-1/4 inches fits standard surface grinder spindles accepting Type 1 straight wheels.
Grinding wheels must be installed and dressed by a qualified machinist or grinding specialist in accordance with ANSI B11.9 and the machine manufacturer's specifications. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before mounting. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, and confirm the machine RPM rating meets or exceeds the wheel's 4140 RPM maximum before use. Use appropriate flanges and blotters when mounting; never exceed the rated maximum speed.
