The NORTON 66243529961 is a Type 1 internal grinding wheel designed for precision bore and internal diameter grinding operations. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive in a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent stock removal and surface finish on ferrous metals and hardened steels. It measures 4 inches in diameter by 1/2 inch thick with a 3/4-inch hole, and is rated for a maximum of 8,120 RPM. The medium grade and K hardness designation make it well suited for general-purpose internal grinding where controlled cut rates and moderate material removal are required. Licensed grinding machine operators and tool room machinists are the primary users of this wheel.
This wheel is used in internal grinding applications on surface grinders and dedicated ID grinding machines in production shops, tool rooms, and maintenance environments. The vitrified bond construction provides rigidity and porosity that aids coolant flow and chip clearance during wet or dry grinding cycles. Its semi-friable aluminum oxide grain self-sharpens as it wears, helping maintain cutting action throughout the wheel life. The white wheel color is typical of aluminum oxide vitrified wheels used in precision grinding of hardened tool steels and alloy steels.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitment for ID grinding spindles accepting a 3/4-inch arbor hole on Type 1 straight grinding wheels rated at or above 8,120 RPM.
Grinding wheel mounting must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test, and ensure the machine spindle speed does not exceed the 8,120 RPM maximum marked on the wheel. Always use proper flanges and blotters, and never exceed the rated wheel speed. Power down and lock out the grinding machine before changing wheels in accordance with applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures.
