The NORTON 63642595463 is a 3-inch ceramic alumina quick-change abrasive disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal surfaces. Part of the R980P series, it uses a Type S (Speed-Lok TS) attachment system for fast, tool-free disc changes on handheld disc sanders. The 60-grit ceramic grain continuously fractures during use, exposing fresh, sharp cutting edges throughout the disc's life. A resin bond system locks grain in place to maximize retention under heavy load, while a self-lubricating grain treatment reduces heat buildup and improves cut rate. The polyester Y-weight backing provides rigidity and durability through demanding grinding applications. Licensed tradespeople and fabricators performing weld blending, deburring, and stock removal are the primary users.
This disc is suited for handheld disc sander applications in fabrication shops, field metalwork, and maintenance environments. It is rated for use on 300 series and 400 series stainless steel, making it appropriate for food-service equipment fabrication, structural steel work, and industrial maintenance tasks where stainless is common. The 60-grit medium-coarse cut delivers fast stock removal without the surface finish refinement of finer grits. Maximum operating speed is 20,000 RPM.
Compatible with handheld disc sanders equipped with a Type S (Speed-Lok TS) quick-change attachment system. Rated for use on 300 series and 400 series stainless steel.
Install and remove disc changes only when the tool is powered off and disconnected from its power source. Verify the disc is fully seated on the Type S hub before operation and confirm the tool's free-speed RPM does not exceed the disc's 20,000 RPM maximum rating. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and discard any disc that is cracked, torn, or delaminated. Eye protection and appropriate respiratory PPE are required per standard shop safety practice.
