The NORTON 636425-06216 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) sanding disc designed for aggressive material removal on wood, composites, and similar substrates. Built on an F-weight paper backing with an open-coat aluminum oxide abrasive layer, this disc resists loading and maintains cut rate longer than closed-coat alternatives. At 40-coarse grit, it is suited for rapid stock removal, leveling rough surfaces, and initial shaping passes. The self-adhesive backing mounts directly to PSA-compatible backup pads without fasteners or clamps, making disc changes fast during production sanding or repair work. Woodworkers, finish carpenters, cabinet shops, and general contractors are the primary users of this disc type.
This disc is intended for use with 6-inch PSA backup pads on random-orbit sanders, disc sanders, and inline sanding machines. The open-coat construction is particularly effective on softwoods, painted surfaces, and resinous materials where swarf loading is a concern. At 40 grit, this is a first-pass or rough-shaping disc, typically followed by progressively finer grits to achieve a finished surface. The yellow color identifies the disc visually for quick grit-level sorting on the job site or in the shop.
Designed for use with 6-inch PSA-compatible backup pads on random-orbit sanders, disc sanders, and other PSA-mount sanding equipment.
Installation is performed by woodworking professionals, cabinet fabricators, and general tradespeople using standard sanding equipment. Power down and disconnect the sander from its power source before mounting or removing any disc. Align the disc squarely on the backup pad and apply firm, even hand pressure across the full face to seat the adhesive before use. Worn or glazed discs should be replaced promptly to avoid heat buildup and surface damage.
