The NORTON 636425-06127 is a 6-inch PSA soft low-profile backup pad designed for use with dual action and random orbital sanders. Backup pads serve as the mounting interface between the sander and the abrasive disc, providing the support surface that determines how evenly pressure is applied during sanding. The soft durometer construction on this pad allows the abrasive disc to conform slightly to irregular or contoured surfaces, making it well-suited for finish sanding work where even contact matters. The PSA (pressure-sensitive adhesive) attachment style means compatible discs peel and stick directly onto the pad face without clips or mechanical fasteners.
This backup pad is intended for use in professional finishing environments where dual action or random orbital sanders are the standard tool. Typical applications include automotive body work, woodworking, furniture finishing, and light metalwork preparation. The low-profile design keeps the pad and disc assembly compact, which can be useful when working in tighter areas or when minimizing the overall height of the sanding assembly is a priority. Sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 5 units per transaction.
Designed as a replacement or supplemental backup pad for dual action and random orbital sanders that accept 6-inch PSA abrasive discs with a Type X pad configuration.
Installation is performed by the operator or tool technician and does not require electrical or mechanical trade licensing. Before swapping a backup pad, power down the sander and disconnect it from any air supply or electrical source. Thread the pad onto the sander spindle according to the tool manufacturer's torque and thread specification — do not over-tighten by impact. Inspect the pad face for wear, delamination, or glazing before attaching a new PSA disc, as a compromised pad surface will affect disc adhesion and sanding performance.
