The NORTON 614636-24530 is an aluminum oxide mounted point designed for precision grinding, deburring, and surface finishing in demanding shop and field applications. Sold in a 5-piece box, this W179-style point measures 1/2 inch in diameter by 1-1/2 inches in length and mounts on a standard 1/4-inch shank. The 38A60-P designation indicates a 60-grit aluminum oxide abrasive with a P-grade bond, making it well suited for moderate material removal on ferrous metals, castings, and weld seams. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians commonly reach for this type of point when working in recessed areas or contoured surfaces that larger grinding wheels cannot reach.
These mounted points are appropriate for use with die grinders, rotary tools, and flexible shaft machines in both residential shop and light industrial or commercial maintenance settings. Typical applications include cleaning up weld joints, grinding out casting flash, sharpening tooling, and preparing metal surfaces for inspection or coating. The 1/4-inch shank is a widely adopted standard that fits most die grinder collets without adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement mounted point compatible with standard 1/4-inch collet die grinders and rotary grinding tools used in metal fabrication and maintenance trades.
Mounted points should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or mechanics familiar with abrasive safety standards. Before mounting, inspect the point for cracks or chips and confirm the spindle speed of the grinder does not exceed the maximum RPM rating marked on the abrasive. Power down and disconnect the tool before inserting or removing the shank from the collet. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable ANSI B7 abrasive safety guidelines during operation.
