The NORTON 088341-38116 is a spindle-mounted interleaf flap wheel designed for precision surface finishing on metal, wood, and composite materials. Measuring 3 inches in diameter by 2 inches in width with a 0.25 inch shank, this wheel uses aluminum oxide (A/O) abrasive at 80 grit — a medium grit well suited for blending, deburring, and surface prep work. The interleaf construction alternates abrasive flaps with non-woven cushioning material, which helps the wheel conform to contoured and irregular surfaces while maintaining consistent cut rate. It is typically installed by machinists, metal fabricators, and maintenance technicians using a compatible spindle or die grinder.
This flap wheel is used in shop and field finishing applications where a conformable abrasive is needed on curved, cylindrical, or contoured workpieces. The 80-grit aluminum oxide formulation makes it effective for moderate stock removal and surface conditioning prior to finer finishing passes. Typical applications include weld blending, tube and pipe finishing, casting cleanup, and general metalworking surface prep in both production and maintenance environments. The spindle-mount configuration allows direct chuck or collet installation on standard rotary tools and drill presses.
Designed for use with rotary tools, die grinders, and drill presses accepting a 0.25 inch shank spindle-mounted abrasive wheel.
Installation is performed by machinists or fabricators using standard collet or chuck tooling rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the spindle speed of the host tool does not exceed the maximum RPM rating of the wheel before operation. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before engaging the wheel. Inspect the wheel for damage before each use and do not use if flaps or the core show signs of deterioration.
