The NORTON 07660788261 is a Type 1 bench and pedestal grinding wheel designed for material removal and tool sharpening on stationary bench grinders and pedestal grinders. Built from white aluminum oxide abrasive bonded with a vitrified bond, it delivers consistent stock removal on ferrous metals, high-speed steel tooling, and similar workpieces. The wheel measures 6 inches in diameter, 1 inch thick, with a 1-inch arbor hole, and is rated to a maximum of 4,140 RPM. At 60 grit with a medium grade, it suits general-purpose grinding tasks where a balance of cut rate and surface finish is needed. A bushing is included to accommodate common spindle sizes. Installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals.
This wheel fits standard 6-inch bench and pedestal grinders used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and trade workshops. The 60-grit medium grade makes it well-suited for general sharpening of drill bits, chisels, tool steel, and lathe tooling, as well as light deburring of metal parts. The white aluminum oxide composition runs cooler than standard gray aluminum oxide, reducing the risk of heat discoloration on sensitive high-speed steel edges. The vitrified bond provides open structure for efficient chip clearance during grinding operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitment for 6-inch bench grinders and pedestal grinders with a 1-inch arbor, accepting Type 1 straight wheels.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should mount grinding wheels. Always power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing a wheel. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before installation using the ring test, and never exceed the rated maximum RPM of 4,140. Wheel guarding and eye protection are required per ANSI B11.9 and applicable OSHA standards during operation.
