The NORTON 076607-88286 is a Type 1 straight bench and pedestal grinding wheel built for general-purpose metal stock removal and edge dressing. Constructed from aluminum oxide abrasive, it measures 8 inches in diameter, 1 inch wide, with a 1-inch arbor bore, and carries a coarse grit rating for aggressive material removal. Rated to a maximum of 3,600 RPM, it is sized for standard 8-inch bench grinders and pedestal-mounted grinders common in maintenance shops, fabrication facilities, and trade service bays. The wheel weighs 4.6 pounds and is sold individually.
This wheel is suited for grinding ferrous metals including mild steel, cast iron, and tool steel. It handles deburring, shaping, and surface cleanup tasks where fast stock removal takes priority over fine surface finish. Typical users include machinists, welders, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators who need a dependable workhorse abrasive for bench grinding stations. The coarse grit makes it most effective on rough stock preparation rather than finish work or tool sharpening requiring tight tolerances.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement wheel for standard 8-inch bench grinders and pedestal grinders accepting a 1-inch arbor bore and rated to at least 3,600 RPM.
Bench and pedestal grinding wheels must be installed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 safety standards for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels. Before mounting, power down and lock out the grinder at its electrical source. Inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test before installation, and never operate the wheel above its rated maximum RPM. Ensure the machine spindle speed does not exceed 3,600 RPM and that proper wheel guards are in place before resuming operation.
