The NOMACO BST05812 is a rubber split pipe insulation section with a lap seal closure, designed to insulate copper, iron, and plastic pipe runs in mechanical and plumbing systems. Measuring 0.625 inches in wall thickness with a 0.5 inch inner diameter and a 6 foot section length, this closed-cell rubber insulation reduces heat gain, controls condensation, and limits energy loss on both hot and cold pipe applications. The split design with integrated lap seal allows installation over existing pipe without solvent adhesive on the seam, speeding up the work considerably. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and mechanical insulation contractors install this product as part of standard pipe insulation scopes.
This insulation section is suited for residential and light commercial mechanical systems where pipe runs require thermal protection and vapor retardation. Common applications include chilled water lines, domestic cold water supply, refrigerant suction lines, and hot water distribution piping. The 6 foot section length fits standard stud and joist bays and works well on exposed basement or mechanical room piping. The 0.5 inch inner diameter fits standard half-inch nominal pipe or tube sizes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation insulation section for 0.5 inch nominal pipe and tubing in residential and commercial mechanical systems.
Installation is typically performed by licensed plumbers or mechanical insulation contractors. Shut off and drain or depressurize the pipe before working on any active line where required by local code. Open the split along the full section length, seat the insulation over the pipe, and press the lap seal closed from one end to the other to ensure a continuous vapor seal at the seam. Butt joints between sections should be sealed with appropriate tape or contact adhesive per local mechanical code requirements.
