The NIBCO PCH61712 is a 1/2-inch press tube cap designed for use in copper tubing systems carrying gas or compressed air. It uses a press-style connection that eliminates the need for open flame, flux, or solder, making installation faster and cleaner than traditional sweat fittings. Once properly crimped with a compatible press tool, a unique N witness mark becomes visible, confirming a complete and leak-tight connection. This cap is part of the NIBCO PressG product family and is backed by a 25-year limited warranty. It is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working in residential and commercial applications.
This press tube cap is suited for residential and commercial gas systems, compressed air lines, and copper water tube assemblies. The fitting is also rated for underground installation, expanding its use to below-grade piping scenarios. The press-connect design makes it a practical choice when open flame or torch work is restricted or undesirable, such as in occupied buildings or confined spaces. Licensed plumbing and gas contractors are the primary installers of this fitting type.
Designed for use with 1/2-inch seamless copper water tube in residential and commercial gas and compressed air piping systems as part of the NIBCO PressG fitting family. Compatible press tools, jaws, and chains are available separately.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas contractor in accordance with applicable local codes, including the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) where applicable. Shut off and depressurize the gas or air supply line completely before cutting or capping any pipe. A compatible press tool with the correct jaw size for 1/2-inch fittings is required to achieve a proper crimp. Always verify the N witness mark is fully visible after pressing before restoring system pressure.
