The NIBCO M178250 is a CPVC reducing bushing designed to connect piping of two different diameters within a plumbing or mechanical system. It features a spigot on the larger end and a slip socket on the smaller end, allowing it to mate with standard CPVC fittings and pipe. Sized at 1-1/2 inches by 1/2 inch, this bushing is used to reduce a larger branch or main line down to a smaller downstream run. CPVC construction makes it suitable for hot and cold potable water service as well as chemical distribution lines. Plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this component.
This bushing is appropriate for residential and light commercial plumbing applications where a pipe size reduction is needed at a fitting junction. The spigot-by-slip end configuration allows the larger spigot end to insert into a 1-1/2 inch CPVC fitting socket, while the 1/2 inch slip end receives standard 1/2 inch CPVC pipe. Typical install scenarios include branch takeoffs, fixture supply lines, and equipment connections where flow is transitioned from a larger distribution line to a smaller service line.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for standard CPVC pipe systems using solvent-cement joining methods.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers following applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting into any existing piping. Solvent-cement CPVC fittings require a compatible CPVC primer and cement applied per the cement manufacturer instructions and allowed to cure fully before pressurizing the system. Do not use PVC solvent cement in place of CPVC-rated solvent cement.
