The NIBCO INC W01840D is a lead-free copper tube cap designed to seal the open end of a copper tube or pipe. It uses a solder cup connection, allowing it to be sweated onto the pipe end with standard soldering tools for a clean, pressure-tight closure. This fitting conforms to the C617 designation for copper solder-joint pressure fittings and is sized for 3/8-inch copper tubing. It is a standard fitting installed by licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians during new installations, system modifications, or when capping off unused branch lines.
This cap is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing and hydronic or refrigerant-adjacent copper piping systems where a permanent, soldered end closure is required. Common applications include capping supply or return lines during phased construction, decommissioning branch runs, or isolating a section of pipe during repair work. The lead-free construction meets current potable water installation requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act, making it appropriate for domestic water systems.
Designed as an OEM-style solder-joint cap for standard 3/8-inch copper tubing used in residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC piping systems.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician using standard copper soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder. Shut off and depressurize the supply line and ensure the pipe end is dry before soldering, as moisture will prevent a sound joint. Follow all applicable local plumbing codes and IAPMO or IPC requirements for solder-joint fittings on potable water systems. Allow the joint to cool completely before restoring system pressure.
