The NIBCO I177300 is a drain, waste, and vent (DWV) plug fitting manufactured from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic. It features a Male Iron Pipe Thread (MIPT) connection type and is sized at 2.5 inches for direct insertion into female-threaded DWV fittings or cleanout openings. The plug is designed to cap or seal drain and vent lines during rough-in, pressure testing, or system isolation. Its ABS construction provides resistance to household chemicals and drain waste at operating temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to 180 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this component in residential and light commercial piping systems.
This plug is suited for residential and light commercial DWV piping applications where a threaded cap or seal is required on a 2.5-inch female-threaded opening. Common use cases include capping cleanout access points, sealing branch lines during phased construction, and temporarily or permanently closing unused drain or vent ports in ABS or compatible DWV systems. The MIPT thread allows hand-start installation with standard threaded fittings used throughout DWV rough-in work.

Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local amendments. Shut off water supply and depressurize or drain the affected line before removing any existing plug or cap. Apply thread sealant tape (PTFE) to the male threads before hand-tightening and finish with a pipe wrench to manufacturer-recommended engagement — do not overtighten ABS threaded fittings, as the material can crack under excessive torque. Inspect threads for damage before installation to ensure a leak-free seal.
