The NIBCO CN00500 is a Schedule 80 polypropylene pipe adapter coupling designed to transition between socket (spigot) and female pipe thread (FPT) connections in plastic piping systems. Built from virgin polypropylene, this fitting delivers solid chemical resistance and is well-suited for demanding fluid-handling applications where corrosion is a concern. At 1/2 inch in size with Schedule 80 wall thickness, it provides greater pressure tolerance than Schedule 40 fittings of the same diameter. Plumbers and pipefitters typically install this type of adapter wherever a solvent-weld plastic line must connect to a threaded port, valve, or equipment fitting.
This adapter coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, chemical distribution lines, and industrial process piping where polypropylene is specified for its resistance to acids, bases, and a broad range of corrosive fluids. Use only solvent cement rated for polypropylene on the socket end, and apply thread sealant tape or compound rated for plastic threads on the FPT connection. Do not over-torque the threaded connection, as polypropylene threads can crack under excessive mechanical force.
