The NATIONAL HARDWARE N118-893 is a medium zinc-plated steel screw eye designed for general fastening and hanging applications in wood substrates. The sharp screw point drives into wood quickly without pre-drilling in most softwood applications, making installation fast and straightforward. The zinc finish provides corrosion resistance suitable for indoor use and light-duty applications. This type of hardware is typically installed by contractors, carpenters, and maintenance professionals, as well as experienced DIYers working on residential or light commercial projects.
This medium screw eye is suited for applications such as hanging wire, rope, cable, hooks, or lightweight fixtures from wood framing, joists, trim, and furniture. It is sold individually as a single-piece package and is a standard item in maintenance, finish carpentry, and general construction toolboxes. The zinc finish makes it appropriate for dry to mildly humid environments where light corrosion resistance is needed.
Designed as a standard medium screw eye for use in wood substrates in general construction, maintenance, and light-duty hanging applications.
A licensed carpenter, maintenance technician, or experienced DIYer can install this screw eye using a screwdriver, awl, or the eye loop itself as a turning grip. For harder wood species, a pilot hole is recommended to prevent wood splitting and reduce drive resistance. Ensure the substrate wood is structurally sound and of adequate thickness to hold the fastener securely under the intended load. Do not exceed the load rating of the wood substrate or use this fastener as a primary structural anchor.
