The MUELLER STREAMLINE CORED3212 is a copper reducing coupling designed to connect two copper pipes of different diameters in a sweat-joint (C x C) plumbing system. It transitions from a 3-inch nominal pipe on one end to a 2-1/2-inch nominal pipe on the other, creating a secure, pressure-rated solder joint at each connection point. This fitting is installed by licensed plumbers and pipefitters working on domestic water supply, hydronic heating, and commercial plumbing distribution systems where pipe size reduction is required along a run.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and commercial plumbing applications where a mainline or branch line steps down in diameter. Typical installations include water service mains, mechanical room piping, and hydronic loop distribution headers. The C x C (copper by copper) end configuration means both ends accept standard copper tubing and are joined using lead-free solder and flux per applicable plumbing codes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting compatible with standard nominal copper tubing in 3-inch and 2-1/2-inch sizes per ASTM B88 Type K, L, or M specifications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the applicable International Plumbing Code (IPC) or local code requirements. Shut off and drain the water supply completely before cutting into any existing line. Both pipe ends and the fitting sockets must be cleaned, deburred, and fluxed prior to soldering to ensure a leak-free joint. Use only lead-free solder and flux as required by potable water plumbing codes.
