The MUELLER STREAMLINE 5899 is a 22.5-degree DWV (drain, waste, and vent) bend fitting made from Schedule 40 PVC. It carries a 1.5-inch nominal size with a hub end style, meaning the fitting accepts plain-end pipe directly into its socket for solvent-cement joining. This fitting changes pipe direction at a gradual 22.5-degree angle, reducing turbulence in drainage flow compared to sharper-turn fittings. It is manufactured domestically and meets standard Schedule 40 wall thickness requirements. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting during rough-in work on residential and light commercial DWV systems.
This fitting is suited for gravity-fed drain, waste, and vent piping where a slight directional offset is needed. Common applications include horizontal drain runs, vent stack offsets, and branch connections requiring a gentle sweep rather than an abrupt turn. The 22.5-degree angle makes it particularly useful when connecting between fixtures and the main stack or when routing around structural obstructions. It is compatible with Schedule 40 PVC pipe at the 1.5-inch nominal diameter.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for Schedule 40 PVC DWV piping systems at 1.5-inch nominal pipe size.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local codes. Shut off water supply and relieve any system pressure before cutting into an existing line. Solvent-cement joining requires proper primer and cement rated for PVC DWV applications — follow the cement manufacturer's cure time before restoring flow. Ensure adequate slope on horizontal drain runs per code requirements for the pipe diameter being used.
