The MUELLER STREAMLINE 520-163 is a reducing 90-degree elbow fitting used to change flow direction while stepping down pipe size in threaded piping systems. Constructed from black malleable iron, this fitting connects a 1.25-inch female threaded port to a 0.5-inch female threaded port, making it suitable for gas distribution lines, compressed air systems, and general industrial piping. The black finish is standard for gas-line applications. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting during rough-in and service work where a directional change and a size reduction are needed at the same junction point.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial piping installations where threaded black iron pipe is specified. Common applications include natural gas supply lines, propane distribution, and compressed air headers where pipe diameter changes occur at elbows. The female-threaded connections on both ends accept standard NPT male pipe threads on the mating pipe or nipple.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded fitting compatible with standard NPT black iron pipe systems requiring a 1.25-inch to 0.5-inch reducing 90-degree elbow connection.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes, IFGC, or IPC requirements. Shut off and depressurize the gas or fluid supply before disassembling or threading any fittings. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium to all NPT connections before assembly. Do not overtighten threaded connections, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
