The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 587-480 is a Schedule 40 black steel pipe in a 1-1/2 inch nominal size, supplied at 4 feet in length with male NPT threads on both ends (TBE). Manufactured to ASTM A53, ASTM A733, and WWN 351 standards, this Grade B electric resistance welded pipe is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 1,064 psi at 650 degrees F and a maximum steam pressure of 1,064 psi WSP at 650 degrees F. It handles a wide service temperature range from -20 degrees F to 600 degrees F, making it a reliable choice for demanding mechanical and industrial piping systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this pipe as a foundational distribution component.
This pipe is suited for use with air, gases, non-potable water, and oil service lines in residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. The threaded-on-both-ends configuration allows direct connection to Class 150 fittings and valves using standard NPT pipe fittings. Typical installations include natural gas distribution, compressed air lines, steam supply, and hydraulic oil transfer where a black steel pipe run is specified. Thread sealant is not pre-applied and must be added by the installer per local code requirements.
Compatible with Class 150 NPT pipe fittings and valves. Designed as a standard Schedule 40 black steel replacement or new-construction pipe segment for air, gas, non-potable water, oil, and steam distribution systems using 1-1/2 inch NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes, including IFGC requirements for gas service. Shut off the gas supply, relieve system pressure, and purge the line before cutting into or modifying an existing system. Apply listed thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium to all NPT connections before assembly. Do not over-tighten threaded joints, as this can damage threads or crack fittings.
