The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 15848 is a wrot copper 90-degree long radius elbow fitting designed for sweat-connection copper tubing systems. The long radius geometry reduces flow turbulence and pressure drop compared to standard short-radius elbows, making it a preferred choice in refrigeration lines, hydronic systems, and domestic water distribution. Sized at 3/8 inch by 3/8 inch with a copper-by-copper (CxC) end connection, it mates directly to 3/8 inch OD soft or hard copper tube. Wrot copper construction meets the material requirements of ASTM B75 and ASTM B88 copper tube work, and the fittings accept standard 95/5 or lead-free silver-bearing solders.
This elbow is used wherever a 90-degree directional change is needed in a 3/8 inch copper line. Typical applications include HVAC refrigerant piping, chilled water and hydronic heating branches, and potable water supply runs in both residential and light commercial construction. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and refrigeration mechanics install this fitting during new construction and retrofit work. The long radius sweep is especially common in refrigerant suction lines where minimizing pressure drop is a design priority.
Designed for use with 3/8 inch OD copper tubing in CxC sweat-solder applications. Suitable for HVAC refrigerant lines, hydronic systems, and potable or non-potable water distribution piping.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes, IPC provisions, and ASHRAE or ACCA guidelines for refrigerant piping. Shut off and depressurize the system, then purge and dry the line before soldering. Clean tubing ends and fitting sockets with emery cloth and apply flux evenly before heating. Avoid overheating the fitting, as excessive heat can damage the socket geometry and compromise the solder joint.
