The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 15839 is a wrot copper 90-degree short radius street elbow designed for sweat-soldered copper piping systems. The fitting connects using a FTG (fitting, or spigot) end on one side and a C (cup, or socket) end on the other, allowing it to insert directly into another fitting without a coupling. At 1-1/4 inches fitting size with a 1-3/8 inch outside diameter, this elbow is suited for tight-radius direction changes where space is limited. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting in residential and light commercial water supply, hydronic heating, and refrigeration piping applications.
This short radius street elbow is used wherever a 90-degree change of direction is needed in a copper sweat piping system. The street configuration eliminates the need for an additional coupling when transitioning directly between fittings, making it a common choice in confined spaces such as wall chases, mechanical rooms, and under-slab installations. It is appropriate for potable water, hydronic heating, and general plumbing pressure piping.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard sweat-fit component for 1-1/4 inch copper piping systems using FTG x C end connections per ASTM and ASME B16.22 wrot copper fitting standards.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter using standard sweat-soldering tools including a torch, lead-free solder, and flux rated for potable water service where applicable. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely and allow lines to drain before cutting or fitting. Pipe ends and fitting interiors must be cleaned and fluxed per the solder and flux manufacturer instructions before heat is applied. Follow applicable local plumbing codes, IPC, and IAPMO standards for joint preparation and inspection requirements.
