The MUELLER INDUSTRIES 15838 is a wrot copper 90-degree short radius street elbow designed for sweat-solder copper piping systems in residential and commercial plumbing and HVAC hydronic applications. The street configuration features a fitting-to-copper (FTG x C) end connection, allowing one end to slip directly into a standard fitting socket and the other to accept copper tubing. Sized at 1 inch with an outside diameter of 1-1/8 inches, this elbow changes flow direction 90 degrees in tight spaces where a long-radius fitting would not fit. Wrot copper construction provides the material integrity and leak-free performance expected in pressure piping systems.
This elbow is suited for potable water supply, hydronic heating, refrigeration piping, and other copper tubing installations requiring a directional change. The short radius geometry is particularly useful in confined mechanical rooms, wall chases, or any rough-in scenario where space constraints limit the use of standard elbows. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the typical installers. It ships in a package quantity of 5 pieces per order.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitting for 1-inch wrot copper sweat-solder piping systems following ASTM B88 tubing standards.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician using standard sweat-soldering tools including a torch, flux, and lead-free solder compliant with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC and local authority requirements. Shut off and drain the water supply or system pressure before cutting into the existing line. Clean all mating surfaces with fitting brush and emery cloth before applying flux to ensure a sound solder joint. Do not apply heat to a fitting that still contains water, as steam pressure can compromise the joint.
