The MITUTOYO 7012-10 is a magnetic indicator base designed to hold dial indicators, test indicators, and similar measurement instruments during inspection and layout work. The base uses a switchable permanent magnet with a 600 N pull force, allowing the technician to position and lock the base firmly to any ferromagnetic surface without additional hardware. A top-mounted on/off switch controls the magnetic field, so the base can be repositioned quickly without tools. The dovetail mount accepts post stems in 6 mm, 8 mm, and 9.53 mm diameters, covering a wide range of indicator holders and articulating arms. Machinists, quality control technicians, and toolroom professionals are the primary users.
This indicator base is suited for use on surface plates, machine tables, lathe beds, mill tables, and other flat ferromagnetic work surfaces where a stable, repeatable indicator setup is required. The 330 mm post height provides sufficient reach for most standard indicator positioning tasks in both shop-floor and inspection-room environments. It is appropriate for residential and commercial machine shop use, metrology labs, and manufacturing quality assurance stations.
Designed for use with dial indicators, test indicators, and indicator holders fitted with 6 mm, 8 mm, or 9.53 mm mounting stems on any flat ferromagnetic surface. Verify stem diameter and dovetail dimensions against existing indicator hardware before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or metrology technicians and requires no special tools beyond those used to secure the indicator holder to the post. Before positioning the base, ensure the mounting surface is clean and free of chips, coolant, and debris that could reduce magnetic holding force or introduce measurement error. Engage the on/off switch only after the base is placed in the desired location to prevent the base from snapping unexpectedly to the surface. Do not use this base on non-ferromagnetic surfaces, as the magnet will not hold.
