The MITUTOYO 547-258A is an electronic depth gage designed for precise depth, step, and slot measurements in machining, inspection, and quality-control environments. It features a solid, carbide-tipped measuring rod and a hardened, ground, and lapped base that delivers a base flatness of 0.000080 inches for reliable, repeatable contact with the workpiece. Resolution is 0.001 mm (0.00005 inches), and accuracy is 0.0076 mm (0.0003 inches) across a full measuring range of 0 to 200 mm (0 to 8 inches). The unit weighs 1.5 pounds and is installed and operated by machinists, metrologists, and precision measurement technicians.
The 547-258A is suited for shop-floor and inspection-room use wherever accurate depth measurement is required. The 4-inch base provides stable seating across a wide range of bore, slot, and shoulder configurations. The electronic readout retains the origin point for the entire life of the battery, reducing reset errors during long inspection runs. An extension rod is included, allowing the full 8-inch measuring range to be reached without additional tooling. This gage is appropriate for both production-line spot checks and bench-level dimensional inspection tasks.
Designed as a direct-use electronic depth gage compatible with standard depth measurement applications requiring a 4-inch base and solid measuring rod configuration.
Electronic depth gages are handled and set up by machinists, quality technicians, or metrologists. Before use, clean the base and workpiece reference surface thoroughly to remove chips, oil, or debris that could affect flatness contact and introduce measurement error. Set the origin on a known reference surface before beginning a measurement sequence. Do not apply lateral force to the measuring rod, as this can affect accuracy and damage the rod tip over time.
