The MITUTOYO 543-581 is an electronic drop indicator designed for precise dimensional measurement in machining, metrology, and inspection applications. It features an LCD display and outputs readings in both inch and metric units. The indicator delivers a resolution of 0.0005 inches (0.01 mm) and an accuracy of 0.0008 inches (0.02 mm) over a maximum measuring range of 0.22 inches (5.60 mm). The contact point is solid carbide for durability under repeated use. Power comes from a single SR44 battery, which is included. The 3/8-inch stem diameter fits standard indicator holders and magnetic bases.
This indicator is suited for use on surface plates, machine tool setups, CMM fixtures, and quality control stations in manufacturing and machine shop environments. It is part of the Mitutoyo 543 Series and conforms to ANSI standards. Machinists, quality technicians, and toolroom professionals use this indicator for runout checks, flatness verification, part alignment, and comparative gauging tasks where digital readout is preferred over dial graduation.
Designed as an OEM-style drop indicator compatible with standard 3/8-inch stem indicator holders, magnetic bases, and back-plunger-style mounting fixtures common in metrology and machine shop setups.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or metrology technicians. Secure the 3/8-inch stem in a calibrated indicator holder or magnetic base before taking measurements. Ensure the contact point is perpendicular to the measured surface to avoid cosine error. Do not exceed the maximum measuring range of 0.22 inches to prevent damage to the internal mechanism.
