Tolerances are tiered by size: 5 micro-inches for blocks in the 0.0625 to 0.3-inch range, 6 micro-inches for blocks in the 0.5 to 1-inch range, and 8 micro-inches for the 2-inch block. A NIST Traceability Certification is included with the set, supporting documented calibration chains required in many shop and inspection environments.
This gage block set is used by machinists, metrologists, and quality technicians for setting comparators, calibrating micrometers and calipers, and establishing reference standards on surface plates. Gage blocks are handled and set up by qualified machinists, metrologists, or quality technicians — not installed in the conventional sense. Blocks should be stored in their case when not in use and kept free of debris, moisture, and fingerprints to preserve wringing surfaces and dimensional accuracy. Before use, allow blocks to thermally stabilize at the measurement environment temperature, typically 68 degrees F per ASME standards. Never force-wring blocks or use them on abrasive or contaminated surfaces, as this will damage the lapped faces and degrade accuracy.
