The MITUTOYO 500-731-20 is a digital electronic caliper from the 500 ABSOLUTE Coolant-Proof series, designed for precise dimensional measurement in demanding shop and field environments. It measures from 0 to 6 inches (0 to 150 mm) with a resolution of 0.0005 inches and an accuracy of 0.0010 inches. The body is hardened stainless steel, and the jaws are carbide-tipped knife-edge style, suited for inside diameter, outside diameter, depth, and step measurements. Rated IP67, the caliper resists coolant, cutting fluid, and dust ingress. It is installed and used by machinists, metrology technicians, tool-and-die makers, and precision manufacturing professionals.
The 500-731-20 is built for use in machine shops, manufacturing cells, and quality-control environments where fluid exposure is routine. The knife-edge jaw profile allows measurement in tight grooves and recesses where standard flat jaws cannot seat. Depth measurement is handled by an integrated depth rod. The thumb wheel allows fine, controlled jaw adjustment. Each unit ships with the caliper, a carrying case, and a silver oxide SR44 battery already installed, so it is ready for immediate use out of the box.
Designed as an OEM-style precision measurement instrument within the MITUTOYO 500 ABSOLUTE Coolant-Proof series, suitable for general-purpose dimensional inspection in shop environments requiring IP67-rated equipment.
Electronic calipers require no installation in the traditional trade sense but should be handled and stored by qualified metrology or shop personnel following the manufacturer guidelines. Before first use, confirm the battery is properly seated and zero the caliper on a known reference surface. Avoid storing the caliper with the jaws under load or in contact with corrosive materials, even given the IP67 rating. Periodic calibration against a certified gauge block is standard practice in quality-controlled environments.
