The MITUTOYO 2417AB is a plunger-style dial drop indicator designed for precise linear measurement in inspection, machining, and quality-control applications. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 1 inch with a dial graduation of 0.001 inch and an accuracy of plus or minus 0.002 inch. The 0-50-0 dial reading allows technicians to quickly identify positive and negative deviation from a set reference point. Each revolution of the spindle covers 0.1 inch of travel. The flat back and clamp-on base mount make it compatible with standard indicator holders and magnetic bases used in machine shops, metrology labs, and field service environments.
This indicator is suited for use in dimensional inspection tasks where a plunger-type drop indicator is required, such as checking runout, surface flatness, bore alignment, and part-to-part variation. Plain bearing construction keeps the mechanism straightforward and maintainable. It is appropriate for both shop-floor use and bench inspection work, and is commonly installed by machinists, quality technicians, and tool-and-die professionals. The clamp-on base mount style allows quick attachment to articulating arms, surface plate stands, and magnetic base assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style plunger dial drop indicator compatible with standard clamp-on indicator holders, articulating arms, and magnetic base assemblies used in dimensional inspection setups.
Installation is performed by machinists and quality technicians using a compatible clamp-on holder or magnetic base arm. Ensure the spindle axis is perpendicular to the measured surface to avoid cosine error, which introduces measurement inaccuracy. Do not force the spindle beyond its rated travel range, and handle the indicator with care to avoid shock loads that can damage the plain bearing mechanism. Store the indicator in its protective case when not in use.
