The MITUTOYO 112-189 is a mechanical point micrometer designed for precision measurement of grooves, steps, keyways, and similar recessed or narrow features that standard flat-anvil micrometers cannot reach. It covers a measurement range of 0 to 1 inch with a resolution of 0.00005 inches and an accuracy of 0.00015 inches. The 38mm throat depth provides clearance for measuring deep or offset features, while the ratchet stop ensures consistent, repeatable measuring force across readings. Both the spindle and anvil are tipped at a 15-degree point angle, allowing access to tight geometries that wider contact faces would bridge over.
This instrument is suited for precision machining, tool and die work, and quality control applications where direct measurement of grooves, splines, or step features is required. The 18mm head diameter and 0.5039-inch point length accommodate a range of workpiece configurations. It is commonly used by machinists, metrology technicians, and manufacturing QC inspectors working to close tolerances in both job shop and production environments. The ratchet stop mechanism makes it practical for high-volume repetitive measurement tasks where operator-to-operator consistency matters.
Designed as a direct-use point micrometer for measuring grooves, steps, keyways, and similar narrow or recessed features across a 0 to 1 inch measurement range.
Point micrometers require no installation but should be handled and stored by calibrated metrology or QC personnel following standard instrument care practices. Clean contact points before each use and verify the zero setting against a known reference before taking measurements. Avoid dropping or overtightening the thimble, as either can shift calibration or damage the spindle point.
